Bond has been set at $1-million dollars for a Hanover man accused of fatally shooting a man from Galena. Authorities have charged 37-year-old David Van Winkle with three counts of 1st-degree murder and a count of aggravated battery with a firearm. Van Winkle’s charges are related to an incident from July 14th in which 47-year-old Dana Clark was fatally shot for allegedly trespassing. A Jo Daviess County sheriff’s report says a physical confrontation started between the two men. Van Winkle fired a single shot at Clark, hitting him in the chest. According to a release from the Jo Daviess state’s attorney office, the three murder charges each have slightly different language – but all three assert that Van Winkle acted “without lawful justification.”
