A Prairie du Chien man – who is facing a charge of 1st-degree reckless homicide – was in Crawford County Circuit Court Wednesday. Reports say 29-year-old Chase Harville is accused of killing a 3-year-old boy the night of July 9th. He later fled the scene once investigators arrived at a rural Prairie du Chien home. Authorities say Harville was found in a wooded area near the home on the afternoon of July 10th. In talking with investigators, Harville admitted to drinking at the home when the boy tried to get cookies in the kitchen. Harville said he grabbed the boy by his hair, picking him up off the ground and tried throwing the child onto the couch. However, the boy missed the couch and hit his head directly on the floor. The boy was alert after Harville threw him to the floor, but the child’s condition got worse during the night. In a criminal complaint, Harville told authorities that he did not attempt to contact medical officials immediately following the incident. First responders got to the home around 4am and the boy was pronounced dead about an hour later. An autopsy determined the boy’s death was the result of blunt force trauma. Along with a reckless homicide charge, Harville has been charged with a count of misdemeanor battery, domestic abuse for an incident in late May. He was also charged with a count of possession of a firearm by a felon and a count of possession of drug paraphernalia for incidents that occurred in mid-May. Harville is scheduled to be in court again on Monday (July 27th).
