During NBC’s tribute concert special Toby Keith: American Icon that aired last night (August 28), the late country legend’s 38-year-old daughter, Krystal Keith, performed an emotional version of her father’s song, “Don’t Let the Old Man In.” Deciding to take part in the musical tribute to her dad was a tough decision for Krystal, as was choosing that particular song to cover. “I was thinking, ‘OK, I can make it through a party song,’” Krystal shared. “But when [producers] approached me with [‘Don’t Let the Old Man In’], I was like, ‘Well crap, I already cry with that song, just listening to it. I don’t know how I’m going to sing it.’” “Don’t Let the Old Man In” is a haunting contemplation of death that Keith sang in his moving final public performance. “I’m glad they did, though, because it turned out really special,” Krystal says of her performance. “I think that he would’ve been proud of it.” (People)
