Authorities said a chimney fire spread into nearby walls this morning at a home in Dubuque County, causing $50,000 in damage. Fire departments from Sherrill, Holy Cross and Centralia/Peosta responded at approximately 8:30 a.m. today to a residence on Ridge Road, according to the Dubuque County Sheriff’s Department. The release states that the homeowners had filled the fireplace with wood earlier in the morning and the house then filled with smoke. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire quickly and the damage was limited to approximately $50,000. No injuries were reported. The fire was determined to not be suspicious in nature.
