Memorial Park in Barneveld celebrated its grand opening Sunday, where local leaders unveiled a new spot for a plaque honoring victims who lost their lives in the 1984 Barneveld tornado. In addition to celebrating the new park equipment and splash pad, village leaders took time to display the new home for the plaque, which honors the nine victims. Leaders say they wanted to move the plaque to a more visible spot to ensure visitors and residents understood the park’s history. Memorial Park was dedicated on June 8, 1986, two years after the F5 tornado tore through the town.
