Nine districts are up for election, which began on May 1. In District 22, which covers Grant County, Patrick R. Schroeder of Lancaster was the nominee and the District 25 nominees, which covers Green, Rock and Walworth counties are Kristen Metcalf of Milton and Chaz Self of East Troy. The Department has confirmed all certified candidates met the administrative rules  and have certified each candidate’s nomination form. The Department is mailing ballots to dairy producers who reside within the nine affected districts. Completed ballots must be signed and returned on or before May 22, 2026. By the time Hoffman looked up he was unable to stop in time and ended up striking the rear of Knutson’s vehicle. Knutson sustained minor injuries and was transported to Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster. Knutson’s passenger was uninjured and removed the vehicle from the scene. The vehicle struck an embankment and rolled multiple times before coming to rest on the driver’s side.  Both Brandemuehl and Schafer were ejected from the vehicle. Brandemuehl was transported by AirCare3 to UW-Hospital in Madison for treatment of critical injuries, and Schafer was pronounced dead at the scene. Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash. As a result of the investigation, County A was shut down in both directions for approximately 7 hours. The incident remains under investigation. Ravn of St. Paul MN. was driving his motorcycle on Brouillard Hill Rd. When his rear tire locked up at the crest of a hill, causing the motorcycle to go down on its side and into a skid.  Ravn was wearing a full face helmet and jacket, but sustained serious life threatening injuries. UW-Med Flight was notified, and Potosi EMS transported Ravn to Grant Regional Hospital in Lancaster, where he was pronounced deceased prior to being transported by Med Flight. The Grant County Sheriff’s Office was also assisted by the South St. Paul, MN Police Department for notifying next of kin. It was found that a UTV had rolled. Subsequent to the investigation, 39-year-old Adam R. Laufenberg of Highland was arrested and cited for Operate ATV/UTV While Under the Influence of an Intoxicant, ATV/UTV Intoxicated Operation Refusal to Provide Required Sample/Submit to Chemical Tests, and Operate All-Terrain Vehicle or Utility Terrain Vehicle in a Careless Manner. Laufenberg was transported to the Iowa County Jail where he was booked on the charged and later released to a responsible party. The sole occupant was transported to a local hospital for his injuries. During the investigation, 43-year-old Joshua R.
