The incident occurred Friday morning on County Q in Highland. The victim was 44-year-old Joel Antonio Alverez Renderos of Darlington. Deputies responding to the scene learned that a construction crew was repairing the roof of a farm building. While crew members were on the roof, Alverez fell through it about 30 feet to the concrete floor below. First responders administered life-saving measures, but he died at the scene. Blue Mounds-based Ridglan Farms will be transferring the last 155 animals on its property to Big Dog Rescue Ranch this week, which will effectively shut down the facility. Fifty partner organizations across the country have relocated 2,115 beagles from Ridglan Farms since April 29. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. Saturday on Highway 20 near Earlville. The victim was identified as 24-year-old Jacob Gill of Dubuque. Two Iowa City residents were injured in the incident and transported by Earlville Fire and EMS to Regional Medical Center in Manchester. Six people were transported to the hospital, all with serious to life threatening injuries. One of these subjects, 33-year-old Joshua Tack of Union, Iowa was declared deceased at the hospital. The state Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation identifies the officer who fired the shots that killed 38-year-old Cory Ruiz as Kiel Baitinger-Peterson, with 10 years and 10 months law enforcement experience. Baitinger-Peterson and three other officers located Ruiz after responding to a report of a person involved in checking parked vehicles and an “alleged burglary attempt.” According to DCI Ruiz became involved in a physical altercation with officers, during which he showed a fixed-blade knife and injured Baitinger-Peterson. Two other officers attempted to Taser Ruiz without success. Enright of Independence IA was traveling eastbound on County W when he crossed the center line and hit an oncoming vehicle operated by 51-year-old William P. Wimmer of Kaycee WY, head on. Enright’s vehicle ignited in flames. Wimmer and his passenger reported minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital. Enright was transported to the hospital for injuries sustained in the crash. Enright was arrested for Causing Injury while Operating While Intoxicated 1st Offense. Enright was also cited for Operating Left of Center. Immediate medical aid was rendered by the co-workers and further life saving measures were provided once Highland EMS and State Patrol arrived on scene. As a result of the injures sustained in the fall, the 44-year-old man was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Grant County Coroners Office. The name of the victim is being withheld at this time, pending notification of family.
