The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources reports the deaths of three people in weekend snowmobile accidents have run the total this winter to 17. There have been nine fatalities in February, which is the deadliest month for snowmobilers. The D-N-R says fluctuating temperatures, snowfalls and melting snow have created uneven surfaces on Wisconsin snowmobile trails. Investigators say alcohol, excessive speed, driver inexperience and operator error are leading causes of fatalities.
