Officials with a Chicago-based company say a large solar-power project in the Montfort area could be delayed due to the coronavirus outbreak. According to reports, supply-chain breakdowns across China, due to the illness, have developers of the Badger Hollow project monitoring how it could alter their production. Asia – and particularly China – is the world’s primary supplier of solar cells and panels. It is also a major source of inverters and racking system components for solar panels. About 80% of the specialty-glass used to manufacture the panels come from China. Badger Hollow developer, Invenergy, said in a state filing “there exists the potential for delays” citing travel restrictions and factory shutdowns in China. The 2-phase project in Iowa County is now under construction.
