Lancaster officials say completion of the Highway 61/Madison Street project will start April 13. According to a release from the city, work should be done by mid-May depending on weather. Most work will be taking place between Linden Street and City Limits Road (see map). Repair of damaged concrete will also take place throughout the project area. Remaining work includes landscaping, sidewalk installation, driveway aprons, painting of parking stalls and crosswalks, plus concrete repairs.
Electronic message boards will be placed the week of April 6 notifying motorists of the upcoming detour. Thru traffic on Highway 61 will again be re-routed to Highway 129. Local traffic can access North Madison Street homes and businesses from Linden, Birch and Ash streets. City Limits Road and Old County K will remain open, but traffic will not be allowed to access North Madison Street.
