A Blue River man is dead following a single-vehicle crash Monday night that caused his pick-up truck to be partially submerged. The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office says that 73-year-old Curtis Steldt was found face down in the Kickapoo River on the passenger side of his vehicle. Authorities report he was dead at the scene. An investigation shows Steldt was going south on County Highway E, approaching a stop sign at Highway 179 in Eastman Township. The sheriff’s report says his vehicle slid sideways through the intersection, striking a highway sign, and then went airborne over an embankment. Authorities report Steldt’s truck landed on its tires and slid sideways into water that was about a foot-and-a-half deep. The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office says there was limited visibility at the time of the crash due to dense fog conditions.
