The Platteville Fire Department responded Sunday Night just after 6 pm to an out of control grass fire at 641 Patch Road in Smelser Township. Less than an acre of long grass and a picked corn field burned. The fire department was on the scene for about 30 minutes. Fire Chief Ryan Simmons is asking people to be careful and only burn what they are capable of controlling. It is also a good idea to check the DNR’s website and if the fire danger for the day is high, very high or extreme that people refrain from burning as a safety precaution.
