The economic impact of COVID-19 is hitting UW-Platteville – as school officials try to find ways of addressing a nearly 15-million dollar budget shortfall. In a release from the university, UWP will begin furloughing employees on May 18th for multiple days over the next three months. Some employees will see temporary reductions in work hours – while others are likely going to be furloughed intermittently starting in July and carrying over to June next year. The budget moves are connected to previous deficit issues, the coronavirus pandemic and a state order calling for a $1-and-a-half million dollar cut in spending. UWP officials say more details are coming as they’re working out details of the plan.
