The Lancaster Common Council has decided to cancel the city’s summer recreation programs. During a special meeting Wednesday, city officials discussed COVID-19 guidelines for having the programs. Grant County Health Department Director Jeff Kindrai noted safety concerns that he has based on the latest information available. Council member Shayne LaBudda cited those issues when making a motion not to hold any programs this year.
“I would prefer just a total cancellation of these programs – and part of it too is recognizing the difficulty it may put on some families, and disappointment it may cause to some families. It avoids some confusion of well, this camp is open but the dates are changed – or this camp is open for this age, but not this age. It’s a simpler communication to the community,” LaBudda said.
At the same meeting, the Lancaster Common Council decided to table any action on opening the pool until their June 15 meeting. The pool may be open for lap swimming, if the council passes a plan next month.
