Residents in southwest Wisconsin had the chance to see a bit more of nature up close and personal this past weekend. Authorities in Grant, Richland and Lafayette Counties all received reports of a black bear that was wandering in the area. Officials at the Muscoda Police Department were called around 7pm on Saturday for a bear spotted near Riverside Campground. It was later found by Riverdale High School. Multiple agencies, including the DNR, worked to guide the roughly 300-pound animal into a wooded area. Then Sunday, the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office got reports of a black bear, possibly the same one, spotted in an area northeast of Belmont near Highway 151 and Burr Oak Road. Staff with the Wisconsin DNR remind you to leave the animal alone.
