Coming up today at 5pm at Smith Park in Platteville is the first ever Juneteenth Celebration, presented by the Black Platteville Community Network. The theme will be “Black Resilience.” It was June 19th, 1865 that the final group of slaves in Galveston, Texas learned that the Civil War had ended and the group had been freed by the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863. There will be guest speakers, food, games, and music at today’s Juneteenth Celebration in Platteville.
