A man from Lafayette County was arrested Sunday for his 5th offense of driving while intoxicated. At approximately 6:45pm, deputies with the Green County Sheriff’s Department, Green County EMS, and the Monroe Fire Department responded to Highway 81 in the Town of Monroe for a report of a two vehicle head-on crash. The investigation revealed that 56 year old Thomas Carothers of Argyle was traveling west when he lost control of his vehicle while negotiating a curve in the roadway. The vehicle then crossed the center line and collided head-on with a vehicle driven by 61 year old Kimberly Lewis of Monroe. Lewis had non-life threatening injuries and her vehicle had severe damage. Carothers had serious, but non-life threatening injuries. He was taken by EMS to the Monroe Clinic Hospital Emergency Room. Carothers’ vehicle had severe damage. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. The investigation resulted in Carothers being arrested for his 5th offense of Operating While under the Influence. Carothers was also cited for Operating Left of Center, Failure to Maintain Control of His Vehicle, Operating after Suspension, Operating a Motor Vehicle without Insurance, and Non-Registration of a Vehicle.
