Lightning is being blamed for a fire at the Muscoda Sportsman’s Club that destroyed the group’s clubhouse. Although the facility is a total loss, several pieces of memorabilia – such as trophies, pictures, artwork and plaques were saved. Officials say lightning struck a tree next to the clubhouse, sparking the blaze early Wednesday. According to a social media post, the fire got in between the building’s original roof and a newer section of roof. That required firefighters to use an excavator to remove part of the clubhouse to help them extinguish the fire more safely. No injuries were reported during the incident. Other facilities at the site – including the target and maintenance sheds, as well as the traps were not damaged. The Muscoda Sportsman’s Club still plans to hold its annual Team Shoot over Labor Day weekend. Construction on a new clubhouse will likely start this fall and be ready next spring.
