Officials with the Field of Dreams in Dyersville are tearing down the temporary 8,000-seat ballpark after Major League Baseball announced this week that it had canceled the August 13th matchup at the site between the Chicago White Sox and St. Louis Cardinals. The decision to cancel the game was the result of COVID-19 concerns. Murray Cook of BrightView, the company MLB hired to prepare the field for the game, says the bulk of materials used to construct the stadium was rented and would be too expensive to keep intact for another year. Sometime late next spring, work will begin to rebuild the stadium for the rescheduled 2021 game. Major League Baseball has indicated that the Chicago White Sox will again be one of the teams in next year’s game.
