That Tree, 160 years (approximately), Platteville
That Tree, a Bur Oak situated near Airport Road in Platteville, succumbed to a storm which produced strong winds on Monday August 10, 2020. That Tree brought many years of beauty to Southwest Wisconsin, and witnessed a large piece of American History: the Civil War, the Spanish-American War, World War I and World War II, the Great Depression, travel by locomotive, by automobile and by plane, man walking on the Moon, two turns of the century, and communication by teletype, by phone, and by computer. One thing has been constant throughout that time—the presence of That Tree. Without fail, That Tree personified each of the seasons, captured by the beauty of spring, summer, fall and winter. That Tree will be missed, but the visualization of it will always remain.
