People living in five homes near the former Badger Army Ammunition site in Prairie du Sac had to be evacuated Wednesday after a controlled burn spread underground. No injuries were reported. The flames at the Sauk Prairie Recreation Area ignited what officials are calling an “unknown substance” underground. A hazmat team decided the let the fire burn itself out. That recreation area was closed to the public while the Department of Natural Resources monitored the underground fire.
