State Senator Howard Marklein (R-Spring Green) released the following statement after Governor Tony Evers’ new declaration of a public health emergency, Executive Order #90 and Emergency Order #1 on September 22:
Howard Marklein (R-Spring Green)
“I firmly believe that the Governor has overstepped his authority. It is time for him to work with the legislature on any future actions related to COVID-19. At this time, he has not reached out to us or made any effort to work with us. Unfortunately, this lack of collaboration forces the legislature to take legal action in order to restore the fundamental checks and balances that make our democracy work. The people I serve deserve a voice.”
The Republican-controlled state legislature took legal action against a public health expansion order back in May, which led to the court ruling in favor of the Assembly and Senate and overturned Evers’ extension this spring.
