Man From Platteville Arrested on Child Abuse Charge

Deputies with the Lafayette County Sheriff’s department responded to a report of child abuse in Belmont Township at around 3am Friday morning. The deputies responded to County Highway Double-X for a welfare check and arrested 56 year old  Clifford Powell of Platteville on a charge of child abuse. Powell was taken to the Lafayette County Jail where he was booked on his charges and remains in custody. Belmont and Darlington Police assisted at the scene.
