A half dozen teens from southwest Wisconsin face multiple charges of illegally hunting in Grant County for incidents dating back to last year. According to reports, charges were filed earlier this month against six teens for illegally hunting deer and other small animals around Potosi. Court records show the activity happened from July 2019 thru February of this year. All of the teens have been charged with hunting out of season, and three of them also face charges of mistreating animals. DNR officials say the charges could rack up big fines for the teens. The fine for small game – such as raccoons – can be up to $500-dollars per violation. The fine for hunting a deer out of season can be up to $3-thousand dollars. Plus, hunters who fail to register an animal harvested could be hit with an additional $300-dollar fine per animal. According to the Wisconsin DNR, officials could also confiscate hunting equipment – including ammo and firearms, as well as vehicles in serious cases.
