State Representatives Travis Tranel of Cuba City and Todd Novak of Dodgeville have introduced legislation to re-open Wisconsin Historical Tourism sites for the 2021 season. Tranel says the state historical society faces a budget shortfall of almost $2.4 million due to pandemic-related closures.
“We have been working with the Governor’s office and the Historical Society for months in what seems like an eternity to try to get these historical sites opened up,” said Rep. Tranel. “The Governor has all the funds available to him due to federal COVID-19 stimulus money that have come into the state to make this happen. For whatever reason our local communities just can’t get him to make this common sense decision. This bill simply directs him to transfer some dollars to the historical society so we can open up these sites and get tourism in our region cranking again for this year’s busy summer months.”
