The Black Platteville Community invites everyone to come celebrate Juneteenth this Saturday. The organization will have food, music and more in Smith Park from 5 til 8. According to a social media post, the theme for this year is – Transcend, Connect, Free to Fully Be. Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 that enslaved African-Americans in Texas were informed they were free following the end of the Civil War. Juneteenth officially became a federal holiday this week.
