Dubuque police are asking residents for information on a former East Dubuque man in connection with a 1987 murder. Law enforcement is seeking information regarding Eugene F. Lewis, who died in 2002 in Minneapolis, the victim of a homicide. Lewis was 54 years old and may be connected to the murder of 14 year old Kenny Joe Johnson, whose body was found in October 1987, on the beach of Maus Park in Dubuque. It was later determined he died by manual strangulation. Police have followed hundreds of leads in the decades that followed but have not been able to identify the person responsible for the 14 year old’s death. Reports say Lewis lived in East Dubuque at the time of Johnson’s murder. At the time, he lived in an apartment on Sinsinawa Avenue with Vern “Slim” Janickie. Anyone with information should contact the Dubuque Police Department at (563) 587-3806.
