A Gratiot man is dead and another person was injured following a crash in the Town of Wayne on Wednesday afternoon. The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called around 3pm for the single-vehicle crash along Highway 11. According to a report, a vehicle driven by 64-year-old Timothy Haffale was going west on the highway when he left the road. Haffale continued driving in the grass and embankment area for some time before striking a tree. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the vehicle – 90-year-old Eldon Haffale – was taken to Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County for treatment. The crash remains under investigation. Multiple fire and first reponse agencies, as well as a passing motorist who witnessed the crash assisted the sheriff’s department.
