A Highland man, who faces a charge of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle, is back in court this week. Records show 27-year-old Alexander Garic had a preliminary hearing in Iowa County Circuit Court Wednesday. A judge ruled there is probable cause for Garic to be bound over for trial and scheduled an arraignment hearing for Friday (Oct 1). Garic is being charged in connection to the death of 56-year-old Craig Cheney of Mineral Point. Authorities say Garic was driving intoxicated the evening of September 17th when he struck Cheney who was walking along Highway 39 near Mineral Point. Cheney later died at Upland Hills Health in Dodgeville.
