Citing health issues, East Dubuque’s mayor stopped down from his post and announced his resignation Monday. During a city council meeting, Kirk VanOstrand told those in attendance that he was leaving the job and proceeded to exit the meeting. VanOstrand began his term as mayor in 2019, prior to that he served 5 years on the East Dubuque City Council. According to the city attorney, the council must appoint one of its members to serve as acting mayor. VonOstrand’s term was scheduled to expire in 2023.
