The president of the Iowa Federation of Labor AFL-CIO says the pandemic has changed the way workers think about their jobs. Charlie Wishman says it was no surprise members of the United Auto Workers went on strike against John Deere as they’re drawing a line in the sand for themselves and future workers. He says one of the issues is Deere wants to remove the retirement system for anybody hired after November 1st. John Deere announced Friday it will continue providing health care benefits to union workers. The union would have had to start providing health care to striking workers, but the benefits would not have been the same as the plans Deere employees have now.
