Even though the snow and cold have arrived this winter, city officials in Lancaster are asking residents to stay off the ice. In a social media update, city staff say that the Memorial Park ice rink will remain closed thru the New Year’s weekend. Staff checked the ice Wednesday, and it’s not thick enough yet to support the weight of skaters. Once the ice is ready, water will be applied in layers to create a smooth skating surface. You’re asked to not walk on the ice until a barricade across the sidewalk and the ‘KEEP OFF ICE’ signs are removed. Footprints in the snow or slush, and holes thru the ice, make it difficult to create a smooth surface.
