Iowa County Sheriff Steve Michek says all of his department’s operations, including the county jail and 911 center, have moved into a new $28-million-dollar law enforcement center in Dodgeville. Ground was broken on the facility in April 2020 but the sheriff says the project was talked about since he first took office in 2003. The facility includes more space for inmates and it is set up to eliminate traffic between inmates, visitors, and attorneys. Michek says the county will save money by not needing to house its prisoners in other jails.
