Construction To Resume On Highway 81

Construction on Highway 81 between Platteville and Lancaster will resume March 28th between Highway 61 and Kingsford Road in Grant County. Approximately 9.3 miles of the 11-mile project between Kingsford Road and Platteville were completed in 2021. Large areas of poor soil were discovered during construction in 2021, requiring substantial additional work to remove and replace the material and construct a quality pavement structure. Highway 81 will be closed to through traffic beginning Monday, March 28th. Highway 81 will be detoured using Highway 61 and Highway 151. The Highway 81/County Highway D intersection just north of Platteville will remain open. The $8.7 million project is expected to be completed by the Memorial Day weekend.
