The signs are up on Darlington’s southside, alerting motorists that Galena Street will be closed starting next week. An upcoming construction project will close a portion of Galena Street, which is also Highway 23 in Darlington for seven months. This spring and summer, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation will address storm sewer, water, sanitary sewer, retaining wall, gutter, sidewalk and paving priorities between County Shop Road and River Street. The road will be closed from Monday, March 14, until mid-October with traffic detoured on Country Shop Road, Gun Club Road, Spring Street and East River Street. Vehicles will still be able to reach businesses and residences within the work zone, but thru-traffic will not be allowed. There will be no parking allowed on Galena Street. School buses will pick up children on Center Hill Road south of the Galena Street intersection in the morning and drop them off at Center Hill Road and the former Al’s Trucking location on East River Street in the afternoons.
