Wisconsin’s Republican members of Congress asked the US Supreme Court to take an appeal of a state Supreme Court decision to adopt new district boundaries drawn by Democratic Governor Tony Evers. The move came days after the Republican-controlled state Legislature also asked the nation’s high court to overturn the Wisconsin Supreme Court’s adoption of Evers-drawn maps for the Senate and Assembly. Wisconsin’s five Republican congressman argued that Evers’ map is unconstitutional and that the US Supreme Court should block enactment of the new map and allow all the parties to submit new proposals. The US Supreme Court does not have to take the case. If it declines to hear it, then the state Supreme Court ruling would stand.
