The match is dubbed the USA Cup and is part of both squads’ summer tours. The two have met on American soil once before, in Miami in 2018, with the German side winning 3-2.
“Our home stadium is renowned for its history and tradition,” Packers President Mark Murphy said. “We’re honored to host two equally historic clubs from across the pond.”
Tickets will go on sale to the public on Friday at 10 a.m., but Packers Season Ticket holders will have presale access at 10 a.m. on Thursday. The match will begin at 6 p.m.
Both teams have found success in recent years, especially during this season. Bayern Munich won the Bundesliga, Germany’s top league, last month thanks to a 3-1 win over archrivals Borussia Dortmund. It was the team’s 10th straight league title, a record.
Manchester City is the defending champion of the English Premier League and is currently top of this year’s standings with just four games to play. The “Cityzens” have won five Premier League titles since 2012 and are playing in the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League, soccer’s most prestigious club competition.
The teams last played in a competitive match in 2014 in the group stage of the Champions League. Argentinian legend Sergio Agüero scored a hat trick as City won, 3-2.
This summer’s matchup carries some extra meaning for City’s manager Pep Guardiola. The Spaniard managed Bayern Munich for three years before moving to Manchester, winning the Bundesliga three times as well as the FIFA Club World Cup.
