With temps expected to reach summer-like highs in the coming days, Wisconsin DOT officials are warning motorists to keep an eye out for buckling pavement. Wisconsin’s roads are susceptible to buckling when temperatures quickly go from cool to hot. The rapid change causes pavement slabs to expand and push against each other. If there’s enough pressure, the pavement can buckle and cause unexpected bumps, dips or hazards in the road. Officials say watch for slowing traffic, and be ready to move over for roadside workers, including highway crews as they repair damaged pavement. Also, if necessary, report serious pavement issues by calling 911.
