Testimony has concluded in the jury trial of Laurie and Alexis Barry of Mineral Point. A report says on Monday, the defense called two expert witnesses to the stand. The first witness, Dr. Erik Christensen, the Chief Medical Examiner of the State of Utah, testified that the cause of death of Selah Kaden should have been undetermined. Christensen disagreed with the state’s forensic pathologist, Dr. Michael Stier, who said Kaden died due to homicidal suffocation. The final witness called was Tristan Wristen, a forensic nurse examiner. Wristen specializes in reviewing cases of strangulation and suffocation. Wristen said she expected to see more injuries, bruising and more blood if Selah Kaden died from suffocation. Once Wristen was excused, the jury was dismissed for the day. Final jury instructions will be read to the jury today (Tuesday). The jury will review the evidence and enter deliberations where they will determine if Laurie and/or Alexis Barry are guilty of first-degree reckless homicide as party to a crime or not guilty.
