A High School Golfer from Indiana is vying for a State Championship this week, and he just happens to be named after the fictional hockey player turned golfer: ‘Happy Gilmore’! His legal birth name is Landon Gilmore, but according to his mother, they’ve been calling him ‘Happy’ since he was 6 years old. And although he is able to tee off in the similar manner to the character Adam Sandler played, he doesn’t ACTUALLY tee off that way in competitions. Happy tied for 8th in the state of Indiana last year as a Freshman, and his team finished 4th, so he’s certainly a contender to win a title. Gilmore even earned some national publicity with a story last month on Golf.com, after he shot an 80 in a U.S. Open qualifier. Who knows, maybe someday he’ll be atop a PGA leaderboard…I can see it now “Happy Gilmore, Masters Champion!” Let’s just hope he doesn’t freak out on the 18th hole and begin yelling at his ball.
