The Badgers will be in Paris from August 7-10, with their first game being played on August 10. From there, they will travel to Lyon for games on August 12 and 13. They will finish their trip by visiting the South of France between August 14-17, playing their final game of the trip on August 16. The Badgers’ opponents will be announced at a later date.
While the team is in France, they will also go on a number of sight-seeing tours, including the Eiffel Tower, a full-day trip to Normandy, as well as stops at Old Town Lyon, the medieval village of Perouges, Monte Carlo and, of course, some time on the beach on the French Riviera.
The trip will also be documented by the Big Ten Network as part of a documentary series called “The B1G Trip.”
The team’s travel overseas is also an opportunity for new players on the roster — including freshmen Connor Essegian, Ross Candelino, Isaac Gard, Luke Haertle and transfers Kamari McGee and Max Klesmit — to get some in-game experience learning coach Greg Gard’s system while building chemistry with the squad’s returning players.
France has a long history with basketball, joining FIBA in 1933 and currently boasting the 4th-ranked men’s team in the FIBA World Rankings. The French national team also won a silver medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics.
NCAA rules allow college basketball teams to travel internationally during the summer once every four years. This will be Wisconsin’s first international trip since they went to Australia and New Zealand in the summer of 2017.
