Big Ten football coming to CBS as part of record broadcasting deal

MADISON, Wis. — You could soon see the Wisconsin Badgers on WISC-TV as part of a new record-breaking broadcasting deal for the Big Ten.

The conference announced a new agreement with CBS, FOX, NBC and the Peacock streaming platform Thursday morning, which will join the Big Ten Network and FS1 in broadcasting Big Ten football, women’s and men’s basketball and Olympic sports.

Media reports indicate the agreement is worth $7 billion over the next 7 years.

Beginning in the fall of 2023, Big Ten games will be shown on FOX at 11 a.m. central time, CBS at 2:30 p.m. central time, and NBC in primetime. The new agreement will run through the 2029-2030 season.

“The Big Ten has been a valued partner for more than three decades and we are thrilled to expand that relationship by adding Big Ten football to our portfolio of marquee properties,” CBS Sports chairman Sean McManus said in a press release announcing the deal. “The combination of CBS Sports’ proven record in elevating college conferences to new heights, our standard of excellence and the strength and reach of Paramount Global’s linear and digital platforms, will create a powerful showcase for the Big Ten and its student-athletes. Together with Kevin Warren and the team at the Big Ten, we look forward to growing the conference to the highest of levels, reaching the widest audience.”

CBS will broadcast a total of seven Big Ten football games in the fall of 2023 and up to 15 regular season games starting in 2024, including an annual game on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. The Big Ten football championship game will also be aired on CBS in 2024 and 2028 as part of a rotation with FOX and NBC.

The network will also show regular season and postseason men’s basketball — including still airing the Big Ten conference tournament semi-finals and finals, as it has done for 25 years. The new contract also calls for CBS to air the Big Ten women’s basketball tournament finals for the first time ever.
