Longtime Southwestern Middle School teacher, 53 year old Tina Wright who battled lung cancer, has passed away Sunday. Wright taught social studies in the Southwestern Wisconsin School District since 1992 and had taught more than 1,000 students. After recovering from ovarian cancer in 2009, Wright was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2019. Despite chemotherapy, radiation and surgery, the cancerous tumors always returned, and Wright told Southwestern middle and high school students in February that the disease likely would be terminal. The Southwestern school community rallied around Wright, raising more than $2,000 at a Southwestern basketball game to help fund Wright’s travel expenses during treatment.
