Morgan Burnett signs contract to retire as a Packer

GREEN BAY, Wis. — A longtime anchor at the back end of the Packers’ defense is retiring as a member of the Green and Gold.

Safety Morgan Burnett retired from the NFL on Tuesday, but not before signing a contract to retire as a member of the Green Bay Packers.

Burnett was a key member of the Packers’ defense from 2010 to 2017 after being picked in the 3rd round of the 2010 NFL Draft out of Georgia Tech.

Burnett played in 102 regular season and 11 playoff games for the Packers, starting all of them. During his career with the Packers, he made 721 tackles, broke up 69 passes, intercepted 9 passes, recorded 7.5 sacks, forced 8 fumbles, and recovered 9 fumbles.

He also recorded more than 100 tackles in a season four times, and was the only Packer with more than 100 tackles for four years in a row, from 2011 to 2014.

After leaving the Packers following the 2017 season, Burnett played one year with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2018 and one year with the Cleveland Browns in 2019.

Burnett is expected to speak with members of the media about his retirement and career with the Packers on Wednesday morning.
