Green Bay had a chance to take an early lead in the first quarter, but Mason Crosby’s 47-yard field goal attempt was blocked. The Jets would score the game’s first points in the second quarter, with a 32-yard field goal from Greg Zuerlein.
The Packers were able to tie the game with the last play of the first half, a 29-yard field goal. Green Bay failed to enter the red zone in the first half and punted four times. One of their drives was also ended by a fumble when Aaron Rodgers and running back AJ Dillon botched a handoff.
The second half started similarly to the first. The Packers were forced to punt on their first two drives, however, the second punt was blocked by the Jets and returned for a touchdown, extending their lead to 17-3.
The Packers were finally able to find the endzone for the first time in nearly five quarters of play, dating back to last week, when Aaron Rodgers found Allen Lazard for a 25-yard touchdown pass. Unfortunately for Green Bay, the Jets responded on the next drive with a seven-play, 66-yard drive capped off by a 34-yard touchdown rush by Breece Hall. New York extended the lead in the fourth quarter with a field goal.
Late in the fourth quarter, Rodgers was taken out of the game in favor of Jordan Love. He completed two of his four passes, but only for eight yards.
It was a rough day all around for Green Bay. Both Aaron Jones and Randall Cobb left the game with apparent injuries. Dillon was held to 42 yards on 10 carries. Green Bay did manage to sack Zach Wilson twice, a lone bright spot on a rather dismal day.
Wilson had a strong performance, completing 10 of his 18 passes for 110 yards. It was running back Breece Hall who took home the accolades on the offensive side of the ball. Hall notched 116 yards on 20 carries, finding the endzone once.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Jets’ defense was a pain in Aaron Rodgers’ side all game long. New York tacklers notched four sacks and five tackles for loss, forcing the Packers to punt six times. Green Bay also turned the ball over on downs three times.
The loss moves the Packers’ record to 3-3. Next week, they travel to the nation’s capital to take on the Washington Commanders. The Commanders earned their second win of the season Thursday, beating the Bears, 12-7.
