Rodgers played in 26 games for the Packers after being drafted out of Clemson, but struggled to develop into the dynamic playmaker they had hoped he’d become. He was only targeted on a total of 16 passes during his time with the Packers, catching 8 of them for 95 yards.
The Packers also tried to uncover some of the playmaking ability Rodgers had shown in college by using him as a kick returner, but that also came with disappointing results. In 26 games, he fielded 40 punts for a total of 305 return yards and 6 kickoffs for 122 yards.
The lack of explosiveness and struggles with hanging onto the ball — Rodgers fumbled the ball 7 times in his 26 games — ultimately led the Packers to cut ties early with the former high draft pick. The Packers took Rodgers 85th overall, ahead of other wide receivers like Detroit’s Amon-Ra St. Brown, the brother of former Packers receiver Equanimeous St. Brown, who has budded into a star after being picked in the 4th round by the Lions.
Hill, meanwhile, showed some promise as a kick returner before suffering a severe knee injury in Week 8 last year against the Arizona Cardinals. Hill remained on injured reserve until Week 9 this year, when he got the ball on one carry for 7 yards and played in 3 special teams snaps. He played in 5 special teams snaps this past Sunday against Dallas.
Hill was a 7th round pick out of Mississippi State in the 2021 NFL Draft.
