Following its crest on Saturday, officials with the National Weather Service say the Mississippi River is continuing a steady descent in the tri-states. As of this morning, the river stood at 23.3 feet at the Dubuque railroad bridge. The river had crested at about 24.3 feet around noon Saturday. National Weather Service meteorologist Tom Philip says the river is forecasted to fall below the major flood stage level of 21.5 feet in Dubuque late on May 5th or early on May 6th. In Bellevue, the river stood at 21.4 feet on Monday, a slight fall from the 21.78 feet it reached Saturday evening. Although both cities likely will see the river drop below major flood stage around Friday, water levels will remain above the flood stage of about 17 feet until May 13th or 14th in Dubuque and May 11th or 12th in Bellevue.
