Road construction has begun on the Highway 80/81 project between Platteville and Cuba City. The project includes milling 3.5 inches of the existing pavement and then repaving 3.5 inches. Contractors will construct a round-a-bout at the Highway 80/81 intersection. They will also place a bridge overlay at the Roundtree Creek bridge just south of Platteville by Duncan Doughnuts. There is some culvert work to be done at the Blockhouse Road intersection. There will also be some curb and gutter work at various locations. The months of May, June and July will be spent working on the round-a-bout. During this phase, Highway 81 to Darlington will be closed. Highway 80 will remain open throughout the round-a-bout construction. The official detour will be Highway 151 to Highway 126 at Belmont. The detour will be ended July 15th. The Rountree Creek bridge overlay will begin in early June. Highway 80/81 will be closed for this and will utilize Business Highway 151, and County Highway D as the official detour. This work will take about 55 working days. The culvert work at Blockhouse Road will begin in August. Blockhouse Road will be closed for this work. Highway 80/81 will stay open. The culvert work will take about a month to complete. The entire project is slated to be completed by October 14th.
