The Friends of Blue River was selected for a Wisconsin Alliant Energy Community Tree program and One Million Trees initiative grant. The Alliant Energy Community Tree Program awarded the organization $3,100 for the purchase of 11 trees to be planted in the Blue River Park. For the past several years, the park tree population has been hit by disease, causing many trees to be cut down. The trees purchased through the grant will make for a good start toward restoring the park to its former shaded retreat. Disease resistant trees selected through the grant include Easter Pine, White Oak, Hackberrry, and Ginko.
