During a stop in Platteville, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers joined several Wisconsin Department of Transportation and City of Platteville officials for a stop on his annual, statewide “Pothole Patrol” tour, to help repair potholes on Sowden Street. Both Evers and State Rep. Travis Tranel of Cuba City, donned neon vests to clean out potholes along a rough patch of road before filling the holes with asphalt. Evers has a wide list of transportation proposals for the 2023-2025 state budget for roads and infrastructure in Wisconsin, using funds from the state’s $6.9 billion budget surplus. Earlier this month, the state Legislature’s Joint Committee on Finance voted to remove more than 500 items from Evers’ proposed budget, including several related to infrastructure. Evers said there are also plans to replace and repair bridges across the state, as well as provide resources to counties to fix water-related problems. Tranel says a road repair bill under consideration is a good start to fixing rural infrastructure. Tranel says if the state doesn’t start now, it will never be able to upgrade rural infrastructure.
