The Richland County Sheriff’s Office and Madison Police Department are investigating what officials are calling an apparent murder-suicide. Madison police said a 60-year-old woman and a 25-year-old woman were reported missing Sunday after not returning home from Devil’s Lake State Park. After conducting a phone ping, Madison Police tracked the women to the Lone Rock area and called the Richland County Sheriff’s Office to assist in the search. The Richland County Sheriff’s Office says deputies found the vehicle after 8pm Sunday along Highway 14 near Lone Rock. Police said both women were found dead in a vehicle. The 25-year-old woman was found with a gunshot wound and the 60-year-old woman was found with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Nothing else suspicious was found in the area of the car. The Richland County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation into the incident. The names of the women are being withheld by authorities until family members can be notified.
